The Past
The building, on the corner of Bellevue Way and Grove Place was purpose built as a J.T. Morgan department store and was opened on January 24th 1961. J.T. Morgans's previous store was on Waterloo Street, opposite St Mary's but was heavily bombed during the blitz in WWII.
The building, while not holding any listed status, is of great local interest and played a key role in the lives of many people from Swansea and the greater South Wales area, after trading for more than 45 years, J.T. Morgans went into administration and closed in 2008.

What Elysium wants for the building.

After nearly 18 years supporting, rejuvenating and consolidating the creative community is Swansea, Elysium need a long-term home.
This renovation of an iconic, but derelict city centre building will provide Swansea with a much-needed multipurpose arts centre. The building will be centred around the themes of enterprise and community, with allocation set aside for digital start-ups and wellbeing, we will concentrate on the integration of the wider community into the arts.

The building will house 50+ creative studio spaces providing long term stability and support to all aspects of the creative community in Swansea and West Wales. The building will also include a large gallery, café, purpose-built education centre and hireable function rooms. A solar roof along with specially designed led lighting and upgraded windows will feed into our sustainability and innovation objectives.
