Trading History
Elysium was set up in 2007 as a pop up gallery space. For the first two years we ran as an unfunded, volunteer project, run by Swansea based artists. Funding for a small programme was obtained from Arts Council Wales in 2009 and Elysium stayed as a pop up gallery moving around the city until 2011.
In 2011 Elysium opened its first studio project in Mansel Street, earning a private income of £11,000 to help finance capital renovations of buildings and we secured funding from ACW for the gallery programme.
Since 2012 Elysium has opened 98 studios, a music venue, bar and cafe, education space and has a private income of over £300,000 a year, plus grant income towards its programme and community education. In 2024 Elysium was awarded investment review funding from the Arts Council of Wales for it's Gallery and Education programme, both securing the future of the gallery provision and creating 4 paid job roles to help further Elysium's offering.
